Why we chose it

We chose this coffee because it shows off the flexibility of Costa Rican coffees, a balance between sweetness, fruit, and chocolate, all without trending too far in one direction.

This coffee comes from Hacienda La Amistad, a farm in eastern Costa Rica owned and farmed by Roberto Montero. That traceability matters - you are not just getting a Central American coffee of unknown origin, but the flavor profile from a specific farm.

Is this coffee a good fit

Good fit if: you like medium roasts with a mix of milk chocolate and crisp fruit.

Probably not for you if: you want a bold chocolate-only profile with very little fruit.

How to get the best cup

This coffee is sold whole bean only.

For best results, grind just before brewing. Start with a medium grind for drip coffee, medium-fine for pour-over, and coarse for French press. If the coffee tastes sharp or sour, try grinding a little finer. If it tastes bitter or heavy, try grinding a little coarser.

Small grind adjustments can make a big difference.

About the Origin

Coffees from Costa Rica are typically clean and well-structured, with a balance of brightness and sweetness. They often lean toward crisp fruit and sugar-like sweetness rather than heavier chocolate profiles.

Costa Rica is a smaller exporter with relatively limited production, often resulting in more selectively available coffees.
